When I found a package of eight wooden birds at my local Dollar Store, I thought Heather might enjoy painting them. I poured orange paint into a small saucer and handed Heather a brush with a large brush end. To my surprise, Heather began painting one of the birds, carefully covering it entirely and even dabbing paint on any small areas she missed.
I was delighted that she didn’t walk away, as she had been doing recently whenever I brought out paint. I was even more thrilled when she patiently painted all eight birds, ensuring every bit of bare wood was covered.
After the birds were finished, I removed them from the white paper protecting the table. Heather then started painting on the paper! Initially, it resembled a Stegosaurus, but eventually, the dinosaur transformed into the painting below.
Stay tuned. Next week we’ll be decorating the birds.
