A Glimpse Back to November
This is just a quick peek back to about six months ago, in November of last year. I asked Heather to help me find the circuit that powered the undercabinet lights in our kitchen. In the old days, I could get her to watch the light and shout or stomp her feet when it went out, so I’d know which circuit breaker I was clicking. I tried that again this time, but as you’ll see, I had absolutely no luck whatsoever. She wants to help so much and she’s trying hard, but you can see the confusion on her face.
Heather was cheerful and genuinely trying to help, but she honestly had no clue what to do. She was very much living in the moment—stamping her feet and laughing a little—but that was as far as it went.
Fast forward to today, July 2024, and that little bit of speech she had in November is now gone. She might give a single word like “yeah” now, but even that is rare. Her mobility has suffered as well. She’s now stiff, uncertain of herself, and needs a lot of help just moving around the house sometimes. Her speech comprehension is largely gone too. I can give her instructions and make requests, but they just don’t register. Sometimes, she doesn’t even look at me.
It’s staggering how quickly this disease is progressing with my sweetie.
So sad ! Heel veel sterkte, John.
