I started writing out a story of something that happened in 2022 that I called The Fingernails Incident. I took Heather to a nail salon to get acrylic nails attached, and without going into detail I’ll just say that it didn’t work out at all. It was pretty awful… But that’s the subject of another entry yet to be created. I’ll probably make a video about it to share my expressions so I will be able to convey the horror of the incident.
As I started looking around for the details of the incident, I came across my journal entries for 2021 when things just started to seem wrong. I kept notes mainly because I felt sure I would have to talk to a doctor at some point and it would give me something to reference. I was also on the alert that I might start second-guessing things, so I wanted to have this good solid record of things that happened.
The following notes are copied directly from my journal from the summer of 2021.
July 23:
Left car keys on roof of car at PPP. Crumpled a bit when telling me what happened when I arrived with the spare keys.
July 24:
Confused about returning lights and power bars to Long and McQuade. I had pointed it out at the front door this morning and we agreed she would return it, then I got a message she was confused, had forgotten about the stuff being at the door.
July 29:
Struggled to find a way to tell me about a new article about the fertility doctor who illicitly impregnated clients with his own or random donated sperm. Stood there unable to come up with any way to tell me. I stayed quiet listening and eventually filled in the gap for her. She said “I don’t know why I *mumble mumble*”
August 4:
Walking the boardwalk and seeing things for the first time that we have walked before, like the plaza at Peace by Chocolate, and pointing to the old brick wall of the Maritime Museum and asking “is that new?”
August 9:
I asked her opinion on the Vaccine Passport idea and she really struggled to respond, seeming to not understand the concept. I rephrased the question a couple of extra times as simply as possible and she still seemed confused, talking a bit about travel.
She texted me asking “Hello Fresh box?” while out at the hair dresser. When we were out biking she mentioned Hello Fresh again but had no clue what it meant… seemed confused about things.
August 10:
Puzzled how to send an email to Jasmine at the dog daycare
August 11:
We went out biking and she said she should’ve brought her “hand things” instead of gloves. A couple of times during the ride she seemed to take it in as if we’ve never been on that trail before. We have ridden it a few times. On the way back she asked if we were on a new trail.
August 15:
Talking about Kate being upset that “her mother” had died… (meaning grandmother). Repeated this a few times until questioned.
August 19:
At Boston Pizza and confused when waitress asked if she wanted no chicken on her caesar salad (I asked about vegan options earlier so that’s why she pointed out the chicken). She was confused about the question.
August 20:
At Tim Hortons said something like “I just can’t think anymore… I don’t know what to say”.
I sort of wish now that I had recorded things, just so I could see progression. I can start now. But the incidents I recall vividly were. The computer screen went black during a public presentation and he just started at it with a blank look. Another time, I asked him to turn on the stove for me, he stared at it like he had never seen it before. Fall 2019, March 2020.
