Last week was discouraging. I don’t usually give up easily, but I found myself questioning whether engaging Heather in art was still possible. Despite some encouragement, she only managed to draw a few reluctant lines with a marker.
As I prepared for today’s visit, I had an “aha” moment. Last week, I had presented Heather with a 9″ x 12″ piece of art paper, which, in hindsight, might have felt overwhelming to her. This week, I decided to test a new approach by cutting the paper in half.
We sat outdoors on the deck, our usual spot for summer art projects here in Nova Scotia. I selected three paint colors, dropped a blob of each onto the paper, and handed Heather a paintbrush. To my delight, she set to work.
Note to self – Never give up!

Last week …This week
Thank you for showing Heather’s art. I find her work at all times (and in all stages) to be evocative and compelling.
Thank you for your comment. My dream of being able to have a show of Heather’s work over the past few years. Well it is getting more and more difficult to come up with ways of engaging heather, I will never give up. ❤️
Yes! Yes! That’s brilliant, inspired thinking. And, the result was a nice bit of self expression on Heather’s part.
Thank you Brenda. I find myself always thinking about Heather and ways in which I can continue to engage her in making art. It is a privilege for me to spend this time with her.
