In the quiet of the morning as I softly brush your hair,
Lost in memories of a life we used to share.
Your eyes once bright, now have a distant stare,
And I catch myself talking to you like you’re still there.
I think back about our days when love and life were full of promise,
We conspired and planned like heroes on a mission,
I see your teenage cheeks behind the lines as if time was nothing,
I forget, and I talk to you as if you’re still there.
Though your mind now lives in places I can’t see,
I hold onto the fragments of what used to be.
In whispers and in silence I still speak with love and care,
And I talk to you like you’re still there.
I talk about my day, and plans I may have heard,
Hoping somewhere deep inside, you see some meaning in my words.
Even in these shadows my love’s flame still burns bare
So I talk to you as if you’re there.
Through the trials and the sorrow, we’ll journey hand in hand,
With memories as my guide, we’ll walk this shifting sand.
You’re drowning and will be lost to me, that much is painfully clear
I’ll never forget you Heather, and I’ll talk as if you’re there.

Wonderful poem.
Thanks Lynn, I actually sent it to Terry Kelly and I think he’s going to set it to music, which would be a great honour.
A beautiful and moving poem, John.

Thanks Bruce – I will confess that it still brings me to tears when I read it.
