What now? She often leaves her glasses on the bed… I believed it was harmless enough but this is what I saw this morning. This is where the Backup Glasses came in. Note to self: Always keep one or two previous pairs in a drawer… you do that too right?
This leaves me thinking, what would I do if she needed a new pair? Would I go to the same optician and ask them to reproduce the previous pair? Would I try to get her eyes examined? No… impossible. There’s no way that would work. It leads me down a rabbit hole… what if she needs dental work? Would that go smoothly? What if she has a medical issue where a doctor needs feedback on pain or something? Do we just give up at this point? That’s palliative care.
When you commit to caring for someone with dementia it really is a sacred trust… you become their voice. You represent them to the world. It’s daunting and humbling at the same time.
